Over-saturation of engineering talent in the market

1) Software Engineer Salaries

Why are they so high? It has become abundantly clear that software engineers are now one of, if not, the most highly sought-after professionals in today’s job market. Because companies are now beginning to recognize how important it is to have an IT engineer on staff, their salary expectations have grown tremendously.

2) Why is there such a huge demand?

The industry has been exploding since 2000. According to a report by CompTIA, there will be 1.4 million new computing jobs by 2018—and more than half of those positions will be at small businesses with fewer than 100 employees. Moreover, they’ll be looking for both technical and non-technical professionals, from software developers to user experience designers to content strategists. In short: demand is high for skilled IT professionals, and it’s only going to get higher.

3) Because engineers like to be challenged

Are you currently an engineer? Are you looking for a job at a technology company? If so, are you finding it harder to get noticed? The answer is probably yes. With so many engineers out there, companies have trouble figuring out who is right for them. Engineers are expected to not only have in-depth knowledge of their field but also be able to work well with others, have strong time management skills, and be organized.

4) Conflicting Results

The problem with oversaturation is that there are fewer jobs for people with these skills. And, because demand for software engineers outpaces supply, salaries are higher than they’ve ever been (and will likely continue to rise). What does it all mean? The simple fact is that IT professionals can make excellent salaries...but don’t go into engineering expecting to make a fortune.
